John Stewart Erb Sr, age 93 of Manchester MD died November 5, 2023, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Longview in Manchester MD.
Born in Pleasant Valley, MD on April 19, 1930, he was the son of the late Paul Theodore and Mary (King) Erb of Pleasant Valley, MD.
Also predeceasing John besides his parents was his sister and brother-in-law, John and Cora (Erb) Armacost and son-in-law Donald Wise.
Surviving John are two brothers, Paul T. Jr, and David F. Erb, both of Westminster MD. His children, Jean Miller (Todd) of York PA, Jane Wise (Russ Hudson) of Gettysburg PA, John Jr., (Barb) of Dacula GA, as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, a niece Linda, two nephews Charles and Wilbur, and several cousins. John also has a bonus granddaughter Haley Wise.
John was a graduate of Westminster High School. He previously worked for Shriver’s Canning Factory before and after his time in the Army. John served during the Korean War as an ammo truck driver to the front lines. He earned a Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal for his active duty in Korea. John then went onto to work for the Maryland State Road department as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1995.
John enjoyed fishing, old western movies, country music, and woodworking. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 12 p.m. at Myers Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
