James Edward Dillard, age 89, of Westminster, Maryland, formerly of Essex, Maryland, died peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Carroll Hospital Center. Born February 13, 1924 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia he was the son of the late Carl Edward and Pearl Prather Dillard. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jones Dillard. James was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. He worked for most of his career as a welder on large aircraft. He was an avid pool player and loved dancing and music. Surviving are children, Larry Headley of Dundalk, MD, Brenda Hood and husband Mel of Westminster, and Dennise Maenner and husband Mike of PA; devoted companion, Alma McDonald of VA; brothers, Paul Dillard of Mexico, Jack Dillard of N.C., and Ray Dillard of VA; 8 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of a funeral service at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster.
