James Richard Brown

May 16, 1936 — October 15, 2016

James Richard Brown, 80, life-long resident of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Golden Living Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Westminster.

Born on May 16, 1936 in Thurmont, Maryland, he was the son of the late John Thomas Brown and Mettie M. (Willhide) Brown.  He was the loving and devoted husband of 57 years to Phyllis Flickinger Brown.

Richard was a machine operator with Freeman Shoe Company for over 25 years, and then worked as a security guard for the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg and London Fog.  Following his retirement he was an evening greeter at the Hanover, PA Wal-Mart.  He was a volunteer with the MD National Guard for 9 ½ years.  He was a farmer in Carroll County for over 40 years.  He volunteered with the Carroll County 4-H and FFA for many years, and loved attending county and state fairs.  He enjoyed bus trips and mystery trips with Nancy’s Roadrunners and going out to eat with friends and family.  He attended the Keymar Evangelical Wesleyan Church, and was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Kevin Richard Brown of Westminster, and Roger Eugene Brown and wife Teresa of Taneytown; grandchildren, Theresa, Diana, Craig, Mark, Keith, and Kari Brown; great-grandchildren, Melaine, Landon, Lindsey, and Victoria Brown, and Timothy Knight.

He was predeceased by brothers, John, Walter, and Paul Brown; and sisters, Anna Mae Wagerman and Grace Lewis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Keymar Evangelical Wesleyan Church, 1011 Francis Scott Key Hwy., Keymar with Pastor Jade Rodgers and Pastor Danny Mikesell co-officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Cemetery in Taneytown.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
