James Edward Batterden, Jr

James Edward Batterden,Jr., age 82, of Westminster, formerly of Emmitsburg and Baltimore, died on Saturday morning, December 29, 2007 at Lorien Taneytown.
Born December 25, 1925 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late James E. and Elizabeth (Noonan) Batterden, Sr. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, M. Berenice Lee (Brown) Batterden in 2002.
He was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Westminster, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph’s, the University of Maryland and University of Baltimore. In 1987 he was inducted into the Mt. St. Joseph hall of fame, and a member of Who’s Who in the East since 1987, 12th edition. Mr. Batterden was retired as Vice President of O.T. Smith Co. in Baltimore. He also volunteered at the Westminster Senior Center and was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks in Westminster.
Surviving are children and spouses, James E. and Angela Batterden III of Harwood, MD, Julia B. and Charles Grimes of Taneytown, Mark L. and Roxanne Batterden of Forest Hills, MD, Mary B. and Jack Sullivan of Jarretsville, MD, Stephen G. and Sandra Batterden of Rockville, MD, Margaret B. Seidel of Greencastle, Pa, John O. Batterden of Frederick, MD, and Brigid E. and Jeffrey Hardman of Orrtanna, Pa.; brothers, John T. Batterden of Baltimore, and Charles A. Batterden of Baltimore. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and two nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert J. Batterden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, with the Rev. Msgr. Arthur F. Valenzano celebrant. Interment will follow in Deer Park Methodist Cemetery in Smallwood. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8 PM Wednesday by the Aisling-Franciscan Sisters.
