Charles Marlin Barnes

August 1, 1932 — November 16, 2013

Charles Marlin Barnes, age 81, of Clarksville, Maryland, died peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Howard County General Hospital.  Born August 1, 1932 in Reed, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Marlin T. and Margie Eulah Long Barnes.  He was the husband of Mary Ann Gloth Barnes, his wife of 36 years.

Charles was a Publishing Director with the Seventh Day Adventist Church for 25 years in several regions of the United States. For the last 36 years he administered his own publishing and distribution business, which included Special Edition and Memorial Bibles. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, bicycling, camping, attending Sabbath School, church services, and traveling to various parts of the world.

Surviving are sons, Charles Randall “Randy” Barnes and wife Heidi of Cashtown, PA, and Stephen Michael Barnes and wife Debbie Lynn of Martinsburg, WV; step-daughter Deborah Ann Messenger and husband Barry of Brinklow, MD; sisters, Ann Stokenbury of Elkins AR, and Linda Sellick and husband Jim of Dothan, AL; brother, J.D. Barnes and wife Rita of Elm Springs, AR; grandchildren, Krista Rogers and husband Donald of Lititz, PA, Heather Price and husband Christian of Fairfield, PA, Randall Dean Barnes of Hagerstown MD, Justin Michael Barnes and Joshua Charles Barnes, both of Martinsburg, WV; great grandchildren, Annaliese Marie Rogers and Donald Beattie Rogers IV; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a step-daughter, Donna Marie Atwell.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Atholton Seventh Day Adventist Church, 6520 Martin Rd., Columbia, MD with Pastor Ken Coleman officiating.  Please contact the family for information on making memorial contributions to the Great Allegheny Passage Rail Trail for a memorial bench.
