Arlene Overholtzer

August 11, 1927 — December 24, 2016

Arlene Overholtzer, 89, of New Oxford, PA, passed away on Saturday December 24, 2016 at Hanover Hall in Hanover, PA.  Born August 11, 1927 in Harney, MD, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Margurite (Crabbs) Selby.  She was predeceased by her husband Sterling Eugene “Hank” Overholtzer in 1980.

Arlene worked for many years at the Sylvania Shoe Company in McSherrystown, PA, and the Kessler Shoe Company in Westminster, MD.  She enjoyed crocheting, watching game shows, coloring, and playing cards.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.   She was a charter member of the Harney VFW Post 6918 Auxiliary.

Surviving are daughters; Angie Stone and husband George of Shippensburg, PA, Melanie Berkheimer of New Oxford, PA; sons; Gregory Overholtzer and wife Cathy of East Berlin, PA, and Gordon Overholtzer and wife Crete of Abbottstown, PA; brothers Carroll Selby and wife Marie of Harney, MD, and Francis Selby and companion Millie of Littlestown, PA; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and another on the way.  She is fondly remembered by granddaughter Billi Jo Lawrence, who was always there when her grandmother needed assistance.  She was predeceased by sister Oneida Eckenrode, and brothers, George “Bud”, Allen, and Ken Selby.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, 21787.  Interment will follow at Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
