Frances Yvonne Brandon, 73, of Taneytown, MD, died peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born April 29, 1943 in Olney, MD, she was the daughter of the late Francis Leroy and Sue Earlene (Alderton) Oursler. She was the wife of Gerald “Jerry” Brandon, to whom she was married for 54 years.
Yvonne was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and her husband Jerry owned and operated Brandon’s Little Store near Taneytown for many years. She also worked as a realtor with Key Real Estate in Hanover, PA for several years. Yvonne was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown, where she served with her husband for 12 years, helping to prepare couples for marriage. She was instrumental in organizing and establishing the school bus service from St. Joseph Parish, Taneytown to Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg, and drove school buses for several years. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and enjoyed cooking, traveling, and listening to country music. She also enjoyed line dancing, and served as an instructor at several senior centers in Carroll County. Yvonne loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband are sons, Steven Brandon and wife Melinda of Glen Rock, PA, and Keith Brandon and wife Tammy of York Haven, PA; daughter, Holly Lehigh and husband Brian of Littlestown, PA; brother, Francis Oursler, Jr. and wife Patsy of Mt. Airy, MD; sisters, Phyllis Hipp and husband Furman of Clarksville, MD, and Nancy Smith and husband Jimmy of Emmitsburg, MD; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD, with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD. The rosary will be shared at 7:30 p.m.
