William “Bill” Thurston Ludwig, I, 94, of Westminster, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Carroll Hospital Center. Born July 26, 1928, he was the son of the late Lawrence E. Ludwig and Christina J. Tighman Ludwig. He was the loving companion and friend to Carolyn Louise Bankert of 47 years.
Bill was in the US Army and served in the Korean War. After the military, he became a carpenter. He loved fishing and hunting; he was also a Ravens and Orioles fan. He enjoyed playing cards; going out to dinner with Carolyn; traveling to Ocean City, MD; and spending time with his family.
In addition to Carolyn, he is survived by children, Gail Schneider, William “Buzz” Thurston Ludwig, II, and Pattie Karevy and husband Joseph; grandchildren, David Schneider, Jessica Karevy Alley, and Joseph Karevy; great-grandchildren, Reagan Schneider, Kelsey Alley, and Ashley Karevy; and numerous sibling-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other family members from both Bill and Carolyn’s families that he adored.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Elton, Charles W. "Skip" and Curtis A. "Butch" Ludwig, and sisters Clarice "Rita" Ludwig and Cecelia May Ludwig Shipley.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m., on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 91 Willis Street, Westminster, MD 21157. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the funeral home with Pastor James Crocker officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
