William L. “Bill” “Bubby” Thomas Jr., 73, of Taneytown, Maryland, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. Born September 27, 1948 in Finksburg, he was the son of the late William L. Thomas, and Nancy Osbourne Uhler and her husband Charles Russell Uhler. He was the devoted husband of Edith Mae Thomas.
Bill was a Master Mason, of Monocacy Lodge #203, and a proud member of the Harney Volunteer Fire Department. An entrepreneur, with great business sense, and a very good understanding of predicting business markets, Bill started three businesses from the ground up; lawn and garden, a trucking company that he expanded from one to six trucks, and trash removal service. After buying a farm in 1985, Bill decided to tear it down, and rebuild from the ground up in 2001. His love of woodworking could be seen throughout the home, in all of the furniture being made by Bill, by hand. He often made furniture for friends and family, but would never accept payment for the items, simply stating that such a transaction would make it “loose its meaning.”
Surviving in addition to his wife are his beloved children, Amy Coca of Taneytown, Carl Thomas (Michelle) of Hanover, PA, and Sherry Thomas of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Emily, Morgan, Abigail, Sebastian, Natalie, and Nickoli; and brothers, Albert, Russell, Ricky, Dale, and Allan Uhler. He was predeceased by sister, Georgia Barag.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 136 E. Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD 21787, and Friday, July 29, from 10:00 a.m until the time of the service 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Crocker officiating.
