William Charles Muir, Sr., 88, of Highfield, MD, died on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the York Hospital.
Born September 7, 1929 in Englewood, NJ, he was the son of the late Charles Bryce and Marian (Herinkind) Muir. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia Joan (Reilly) Muir.
William served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, and then retired as a teacher for the State of Maryland after 12 years. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Shrine Catholic Parish in Emmitsburg, and formerly a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Sergeants Association, and the P.T.A. for Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg. He was a Eucharistic minister at church and was active with the Boys and Girls Scouts. He enjoyed playing golf, racquetball, tennis, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, William Charles Muir, Jr. and wife Grace Lenzi of FL.; daughters, Kathleen Grace Muir of CA., and Joan Patricia Williams and husband Richard of Emmitsburg; grandchildren, Lyndsey Williams Hillman and husband Marcus, Morgan Williams Donahue and husband Joseph, Katie Beth Williams Lowman and husband Miles, Stacey Williams, Marah Williams, Joseph Muir Stapleton and wife Sarah, and Jessica Estrada and husband Paul; great-granddaughters, Madalyn and Sophia Estrada; brothers, Thomas Muir and Philip Griffo of FL.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Robert Muir and sister, Doris Liesch.
A graveside service with military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mother Seton School, 100 Creamery Rd., Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Emmitsburg.
