William Bedford “Bill” Lyon, 83, of Libertytown died peacefully Friday, September 5, 2014 at St. Catherine Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. Born April 11, 1931 in Blackstone, VA, he was the son of the late Watson Bedford and Mary Elizabeth Hall Lyon. He was the husband of Alice Mae Moore Lyon, to whom he was married for 63 years.
Bill was the owner of Utility Services in Laytonsville, a business he operated for more than 25 years. He enjoyed gardening and raising orchids. He was an avid golfer and a licensed pilot for more than 20 years. Bill was a member of the Laytonsville Lions Club for nearly 30 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, William Steven Lyon and wife Judy of Walkersville, and Daniel Bedford Lyon and wife Donna of Gaithersburg; daughter, Patricia Lynn Lyon Watson and husband Bill of Libertytown; brothers, Robert Lyon and wife Carol of Victorville, CA, and Watson Lyon of Powhatan, VA; sisters, Delores Mitchell of Arlington, VA, Inez Poe of Powhatan, VA, and Sarah Hedlund and husband Bob of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Stephanie Lyon of Frederick, and Carley Watson of Tokyo, Japan; great-granddaughter, Lily Jean; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by brother, Eugene Lyon.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 20 at Grace United Methodist Church, 119 N. Frederick Rd, Gaithersburg, MD.
