Wellington “Shorty” Ruby, Sr., age 74, of Taneytown, Maryland, died following an extended illness on Friday, March 13, 2009 at his home.
Born November 5, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late John C. and Maddie L. (Allen) Ruby.
Shorty was a self-employed painter for over fifty years. He loved working with his twin brother Will, making wishing wells, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his five children, Wellington “Doodle” Ruby, Jr. and wife Barbara E. Steger of Union Bridge, Donna Ruby of Hanover, PA, Michael D. Ruby and wife Lynn of New Windsor, Glenn Ruby of Taneytown, and Wanda Brinton of Milton, Delaware; brother, John Ruby of Cockeysville, MD, sisters, Nancy L. Gerczak of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Charlotte Sus of Delaware; grandchildren, Michelle L. Back, Brian K. Brinton, Michael Ruby, Jr., and Matthew Ruby; great-grandson, Levi J. Back.
He was predeceased by a twin brother, Willard Ruby, a sister, Trudy Stitely, and by his former spouse, Helen Gibson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, Maryland. Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery in Ellicott City, Maryland. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
