Wayne Carlton Baumgardner, 77, of Emmitsburg, MD, died peacefully Friday, April 1, 2016, at his home. Born December 29, 1938 in Frederick County, MD, he was the son of the late Carl and Marion (Koontz) Baumgardner.
Wayne was a graduate of Emmitsburg High School, class of 1957, and the University of Maryland, where he earned a degree in Business. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in the Military Police. He spent his career as a Compliance Officer with the United States Department of Labor. Wayne was a licensed pilot and loved flying. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening, working with machinery, and traveling.
Surviving are his sister, Audrey Baumgardner, of Emmitsburg, and many cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Elias Lutheran Church, 100 North Ave., Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Jon R. Greenstone officiating. Interment will follow in the Elias Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.
