Wanda Galczynski Rhodes, age 96, of Taneytown, MD, died Monday, December 21, 2015 at home. Born September 30, 1919 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Wladyslawa “Laura” (Gutowski) Galczynski. She was the wife of the late John W. Rhodes, Jr.
She was a member of both St. Joseph Catholic Church (Taneytown, MD) and Holy Rosary Church (Baltimore, MD). She attended Baltimore’s Institute of Notre Dame and worked at Western Electric for many years. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.
Surviving are daughter, Frances Bertrand and husband Robert of New Oxford, PA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Rhodes and husband Wesley Stonesifer; and Jennifer L. Hewlett of Taneytown, MD; Victorialyn, John and Dorothy Bertrand of New Oxford, PA; great grandchildren William and Alexandra Stonesifer and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by daughter Dorothy B. Hewlett and siblings Charles, Sr. Stephanie, Henry and Louis Galczynski, Jeanette Pniewski, Anne Wisniewski and Helene Vance.
A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 24, at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Dundalk, MD, with Msgr. Martin E. Feild as celebrant. There will be a prayer service during the evening visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 23 at 7:30 pm. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:30 pm & 7:00 to 9:00 pm, Wednesday, at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
