Waltraut Staggs

January 10, 1943 — April 5, 2024

Waltraut Carol Staggs, 81, of Westminster, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Carroll Lutheran Village.  Born in Cumberland on January 10, 1943, Waltraut was the daughter of Walter and Johanna Cecilia (Pfeiffer) Flender.  She is predeceased by her husband, Carroll H. Staggs, Jr., and her son-in-law, Bill McClelland.

Waltraut is a 1960 graduate of Ursuline Academy and attended Frostburg State Teachers College.

Waltraut was a devoted wife and Mom, raising two children. She enjoyed crafts, entertaining, traveling and eating out.  She was very active in the community; recognized for more than 50 years of membership with the Maryland Association for Family and Community education where she held various positions including , President of the Carroll County Association for Family and Community Education,  Scholarship chairman, presenting a scholarship to a qualifying High School  student each year at the annual May Day  celebration;  local FCE Character Counts contest chairwomen and she presented books to be used in the Dads Works program.   She thoroughly enjoyed socializing and crafting with her friends in the local Suburban Homemakers Club.  Participating in teas with her Red Hat friends gave her much pleasure, too.

Waltraut was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she helped teach Sunday School to Kindergarten age children, served on the kitchen committee, the altar flower committee, caring committee, assisted with organizing blood drives and preparing weekly bulletins. She also served as secretary for the Consistory.

Waltraut is survived by her daughter, Laura McClelland; son, Jeffrey Staggs and wife, Theresa, sister, Norma Moore of New Jersey; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 16th  from 2-4p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St. Westminster, MD.

Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17th at Deer Park Methodist Cemetery.

A celebration of Waltraut’s life will follow the burial at 12 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 17 Bond Street, Westminster, with the Reverend Dr. Marty Kuchma officiating.  The service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend. To access the Gathering with Zoom video images and computer audio, click this link or paste it into your browser: https://zoom.us/j/96602277459 To access the Gathering with phone only, dial:  1 301 715 8592, then, when prompted, enter the Meeting ID as: 966 0227 7459, and enter # when prompted to enter a password.
