Vivian Jean (Shoemaker) Phillips, age 83, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born September 6, 1924 in Carroll County, Md, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Elma (Zentz) Shoemaker and the step-daughter of the late Thorton Shoemaker, all of Taneytown. She was the wife of the late Thomas E. Phillips.
Vivian was a graduate of Taneytown High School and Strayer Business College. She retired from the payroll department of Cambridge Rubber Company. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and Sunday School in Taneytown, the Taneytown Republican Women’s Club, the Heritage Committee and an original member of the Taneytown 500 Card Club. She had also volunteered at Carroll Hospital Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Cherie Phillips Barnett of Arlington, Virginia, and members of the Zentz, Shoemaker and Phillips families.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Taneytown with the Rev. Jo Grossheim officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7-9 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
