Virginia “Nancy” Frances Hamer, age 91, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born July 6, 1922 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Claude C. and Victoria F. (Dougherty) Felty. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Frank Hamer.
She worked in food services for the Columbia School for the deaf in Elkridge for several years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Ellen F. Styers of Taneytown and Susan F. Hamer and husband Michael DeWitt of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sister, Mary Frances Orem of Severn, Md.; grandchildren, Sherrill Williams and husband Larry, Dawn L. Dow and Kimberly Vickers; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah L. Carroll and Jordan Byrd; special niece, Mary L. “Bootsie” Allum and husband Chuck of Severn, Md.
She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Styers, and by siblings, Claude C. Felty, Jr., George Felty, Richard Felty, and Cecil F. Ashby.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.
