Virginia Leona “Ginger” Dykes, 72, of Taneytown, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at her home with her family at her side. Born August 22, 1949 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John and Leona (Wirth) Hudgins.
Ginger was formerly the co-owner of Carpet Knights in Eldersburg. For the last 18 years she worked at Walmart in Westminster. She enjoyed oil painting, listening to music, taking care of all sorts of animals, and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are her three sons, John Dykes and wife Susan of Eldersburg, Dustin Dykes and wife Lisa Mangham of Carrollton, TX, and Jason Dykes and girlfriend Margie Oxendine of Taneytown; grandchildren, Lexy Fenton and husband Connor, and Austin, Joshua, Christian, Savanah, and Jonathan Dykes; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Bernadette “MB” Taylor, and her brother, John Hudgins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at St. Stephen’s Reformed Episcopal Church, 2275 Liberty Rd, Eldersburg, MD, with Pastor Eric Jorgensen officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Lunch will follow the service for all in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ginger’s name to St. Stephen’s Classical Christian Academy, 2275 Liberty Rd., Eldersburg, MD 21784 or to Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Rd, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL, 32256.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown, MD.
