Virginia Rosanna Webb Sykes, age 85, of Finksburg died peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Lorien Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown. Born February 19, 1927 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Nancy Virginia Barber Webb. She was the wife of the late Delmis L. “Bud” Sykes, Sr.
Virginia worked at Westminster Shoe, Telemecanique in Finksburg and at the Zoysia Grass Farm in Gamber. In her later years, she worked as a daycare provider. She was a member of Patapsco United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, doing cross-stitch, collecting glassware, baskets, & bells, and spending time with family & friends.
Surviving are daughters, Nancy Leppo & husband , Dave, of Westminster, and Beverly Hale & husband, Stephen, of Littlestown, PA; son, Delmis “Lee” Sykes, Jr. & wife, Donna, of McSherrystown, PA; sisters, Carol Wisner & husband, Stewart, of Finksburg, Shirley Harris of Hampstead, and Joyce Troyer & husband, Rich, of White Hall; brother, Charles “Buddy” Webb & wife, Nancy of Westminster; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by brother, William Webb, Jr. and great-grandson, Steven Brannock.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St. Westminster, MD with the Rev. Rick Shamer officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
