Violet Estella Smith, 89, of Emmitsburg, MD, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg. Born December 3, 1926 at Lloyd’s Station, MD, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Pauline (Long) Stambaugh
Violet was a Nurses' Assistant for 15 years with the Daughters of Charity in Emmitsburg. She was a member of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ in Rocky Ridge. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, going to auctions and sales, collecting dolls and figurines, and double-dating when she was young.
Surviving are her children, Edward Smith and wife Dottie of Taneytown, Gary Smith and wife Deb of Middleburg, Michael Smith and wife Patty of Taneytown, Bonnie Gastley and husband Earl of Frederick, and Terry Smith and wife Belinda of Fairfield, PA; siblings, Sterling Stambaugh of Barlow, PA, Samuel Stambaugh and wife Sarah of Graceham, Betty Garber of Union Bridge, Joyce Stitely of PA, Larry Stambaugh and wife Ruth of Emmitsburg, and Rodney Stambaugh and wife Caroline of Union Bridge; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews. She was predeceased by infant grandson, Larry Gastley; brothers, Harold and Lee Stambaugh; sister, Carlene Buffington; and infant sister, Dolly Stambaugh.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2016 at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ, 10043 Longs Mill Rd., Rocky Ridge, MD, with the Rev. Daniel Ricketts officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Creagerstown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Tabor U.C.C., % Richard Dinterman, 11019 Rocky Ridge Rd, Keymar, MD, 21757. Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown.
