Victor Andrew Leitzke

Victor A. Leitzke, age 98, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Diven House Assisted Living at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster.
He was born on September 14, 1915 in Hustisford, Dodge County, Wisconsin, son of the late Andrew F. and Dorothea (Keup) Leitzke.  He was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Harriet E. (Sorenson) Leitzke in 2006.
Mr. Leitzke graduated in 1932 from Oshkosh High School, Oshkosh, WI; and the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1940 with a BS in Electrical Engineering.  He was recruited and hired by General Electric and had assignments in Pittsfield, Mass., Schenectady, N.Y., Pittsburgh, PA, Buffalo, NY, and finally in Salem (Roanoke), VA, where he retired in 1978 as Senior Drive Systems Engineer, with 38 years of service.  Victor enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, and in his retirement, painting also.  He served in various church offices, choir, choir director, Sunday School teacher, and Bible class teacher.  He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Owings Mills, Maryland, and had lived at Carroll Lutheran Village since 1996.
Surviving are sons, Peter A. Leitzke and wife Arlene of Martinsburg, W.Va., Victor A. “Chip” Leitzke, Jr. of Havre de Grace, MD, and John S. Leitzke and wife Kathryn of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Rev. Timothy Leitzke and wife Rev. Emily of Chestertown, MD, Heather Davis and husband Glenn of San Francisco, CA, Christopher Leitzke of Alexandria, VA, and Nicholas Leitzke of Roanoke, VA; great-granddaughters, Audrey and Jane Leitzke, Aubrey Smith, and Ella Davis.
He was predeceased by siblings, Gertrude, Andrew, and Lorraine Leitzke, Doris Falkenburg, and Anita Fritz.
A private family viewing, service and graveside service was held at Meadow Branch Cemetery in Westminster.  A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster with Rev. Jimmie L. Schwartz and Rev. Harry M. Krolus officiating.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Carroll Lutheran Village Resident Assistance Fund, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD  21158 or to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 515 Academy Ave., Owings Mills, MD  21117.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Westminster.
