Veronica Carolyn (Weaver) High

“Three things will last forever- faith, hope, and love- and the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13, NLT).  Veronica Carolyn High, of Westminster, MD, had a beautiful faith in God, limitless hope, and a life defined by sacrificial love for others. Her life was full of love: love for God, her family, and her friends. On Saturday, September 25, 2021 Veronica went home to our Lord at the age of 74. She passed away at Carroll Hospital Center with her husband and daughter by her side. Veronica was the oldest of nine, born on February 22, 1947 in Hanover, PA to the late Raymond and Mary (Wisner) Weaver. She was a selfless caregiver from an early age to her younger brothers and sisters. Veronica never stopped being a caregiver, as she lovingly looked after her parents, raised her children, and eventually helped with her grandchildren.

She graduated from Delone Catholic High School in 1964 and would later work jobs at the local telephone company and at Random House as a switchboard operator, in telephone sales, and as a customer service representative. On July 23,1966, Veronica married the love of her life, Barry Charles High. After Barry finished his time in the Air Force, Veronica supported her husband on the family farm.

If you entered Veronica’s home, you would likely be greeted by the smell of something baking, likely one of her infamously delicious brownies, pies, or cakes. Even if you were a stranger, she would greet you like a friend. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet and sew, making many baby blankets and wedding afghans for family and friends. As an active member of Grace Bible Church, she became like family to many and someone others could rely upon. She developed many close friendships throughout her life.

Anyone who knew Veronica would be able to testify to just how much she loved her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren especially were her pride and joy. She made every effort to attend sports games, horse shows, and any activity where she could cheer them on. As their beloved Nan, she made sure that they cultivated a strong faith in God. Veronica firmly believed in the power of prayer, and even while she battled a slew of health problems her entire life she still maintained a firm reliance on God. As a self-proclaimed prayer warrior she always put others before herself.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 55 years are daughter Stephanie Repp and son-in-law Michael of Gettysburg, PA, son Christopher High and daughter-in-law Megan of Westminster, MD, grandchildren Kaitlin, Kaleb, and Kyle Repp and Avery and Addisyn High, siblings Theresa Bailey and husband Al of Mechanicsville, VA, Timothy Weaver and husband Terry Ridley of Newfoundland, Canada, Regina Ernst and husband Greg of New Oxford, PA, Anita Rippeon and husband Brian of Littlestown, PA, Gregory Weaver and wife Sharon of New Smyrna, FL, Kevin Weaver of Hanover, PA, Eric Weaver of Hanover, PA, Ramona Weaver of Fort Collins, CO, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. While Veronica is no longer with us, she will continue to live on in our hearts. Due to COVID, we are planning a celebration of life at a later date. A private service and interment will be held.
