Vernon Leroy “Smokey” Eyler, 73, of Taneytown, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at his home. Born October 8, 1947 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Cramer Johnson Eyler and the late Ruth Louise (Cole) Eyler, formerly of Woodsboro.
Smokey was a painter by trade and was the owner of Eyler Painting. He enjoyed hunting, collecting antiques, watching old western movies, playing guitar, singing, and listening to country music, especially Merle Haggard and George Jones.
Surviving are his partner of 30 years and fiancée, Elaine (Chenault) Luhn; son, Vernon Eyler, Jr. (Rebecca) of Boonsboro; daughter, Lisa Doody (Craig) of Rocky Ridge; step-daughters, Jackie Luhn of Taneytown, Lisa Luhn of Westminster, and Melissa Stonesifer (Shane) of Taneytown; brothers, Robert Eyler (Betty), and John Eyler (Kay), all of Frederick; grandchildren, Brandan Renner, Brittany Nails, Jess Carnell, Jeb Eyler, Matthew, Joshua, Allison, Shaun, and Shane Doody; and step-grandchildren, Jaden Morgan, Xavier Shaffer, Hailey Stonesifer, and Ava Luhn.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family memorial service will be held at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown, MD. The service will be live-streamed at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 19th at https://www.facebook.com/MDFHWestminster/ . Burial will be in the Beggs Cemetery at a later date.
