Vernon Richard “Rick” Rippeon, age 51 of Westminster, Maryland died suddenly on Sunday, June 21, 2015 while leading a scout troop on a presidential mountain hike on the Crawford Path in the White Mountains, New Hampshire.
He was born on March 23, 1964 in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, son of Vernon Robert Rippeon of Frederick, MD, and the late Shirley Barnes Rippeon. He was step-son of the late MaeRetha M. Saunders Rippeon.
He is survived by, in addition to his father, his loving wife of 25 years, Teresa Lynne (Stansbury) Rippeon; children, Vernon Ryan Rippeon, Elena Louisa Rippeon, and Patrick Ian Rippeon all at home in Westminster; sister, Katherine Virginia Rippeon of Westminster and fiancée Jody T. Long; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Shirley and Donald Stansbury of Hanover, PA.
Rick was a 1982 graduate of Walkersville High School and went on to a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Western Maryland College and Mechanical Engineering degree from UMBC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a gunners mate from 1983-87. He was a former scout master and currently assistant scout master to B.S.A. Troop # 735 in Gamber, MD. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children, in outdoor activities.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Rick’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the First United Presbyterian Church, 65 Washington Rd., Westminster with the Rev. Matthew Glasgow officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 735 or to First United Presbyterian Church.
