Vernon Sherman Miller, age 85, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at his home.
Born December 2, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Russell B. Miller, Sr. and Hilda Viola (Sherman) Miller.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet Bair Miller.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and earned three campaign battle stars, and obtained the rank of Sgt. First Class in the 2nd Inf. Div. Combat Engineers.  He owned and operated Miller’s Electrical Service and Appliance Store on West Main Street in Westminster, a store that opened in 1927 and was started by his father.  He held a masters electrical license, and was a past chairman of the Carroll County Electrical Licensing Board.  He served as past president of the Westminster Lions Club, Life member of the 2nd Inf. Div. Korean War Veterans Alliance, Life Member Westminster VFW Post #467, Life Member of Westminster American Legion Post #31, and a member of Stone Chapel United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed trips to other countries such as Spain, Switzerland, England, Mexico, Nassau, and Japan.  After restoring a 1948 Willy’s Jeepster, he road in many Memorial Day parades to represent Korean War veterans.  He was one of a foursome that played golf each week during the summer.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Sherman Lee Miller of Westminster; daughter, Susan Linda Miller Turfle and husband, Kenneth, of Westminster; grandchildren, Ashley Marie Miller, Jonathan Matthew Green, Amber, Kenneth, and Benjamin Turfle; brother, Russell B. Miller, Jr. of Westminster; and sister, Anna Hise of Gettysburg, PA.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Connie Joy Miller in 1981.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Finksburg.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
