Vera Annabelle Andrew Eiker, age 80, of Emmitsburg, MD died Friday, January 13, 2012 at Johns-Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore. Born October 11, 1931 in Emmitsburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Nellie Bowser Andrew and step-daughter of the late Elsie Springer Andrew. She was the wife of the late Elwood Eiker, her husband of 56 years.

Vera graduated from Emmitsburg High School in 1948. She worked briefly as a receptionist at Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown until she married and became a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Incarnation United Church of Christ in Emmitsburg. She loved to play Bingo at the Emmitsburg Ambulance Company building on Monday & Friday evenings and looked forward each day to joining her friends at the Emmitsburg Senior Center. Vera was a loving and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a friend to all.

Surviving are 11 children: daughters, Laura Eiker, Nina Eiker, & Cathy Harbaugh, all of Emmitsburg, Beatrice Waybright & husband, David, of Gettysburg, PA, and Wanda Winegardner & husband, Joe, of Marion, IL; sons, Nevin Eiker & wife, Jody, Kenneth Eiker & wife, Lana, and John Eiker, Sr. & wife, Tammy, all of Emmitsburg, Clifford Eiker & wife, Charlene, and Marvin Eiker & wife, Terri, all of Thurmont, and Morris Eiker & wife Juanita, of Fairfield, PA; brothers, Stanley Andrew & wife, Margaret, and Earl Andrew all of Emmitsburg; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; special long-time friend, Shelby Parks, and family friend, Brian Dougherty; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Charles, Richard, and Joseph Andrew; step-son, Lonnie Downin; and step-grandson, Lonnie Downin, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD, with The Rev. Jon R. Greenstone officiating. Interment will follow at Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday.
