Velma Jean Stambaugh, 81, of Emmitsburg, MD, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at her home with her family at her side. Born November 7, 1939 in Emmitsburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Kermit and Della (Gladhill) Glass. She was the devoted wife of Fred Guy Stambaugh. He passed in 2002.
Velma was a seamstress at St. Joseph provincial House in Emmitsburg for 34 years. She was a faithful member of Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, knitting, bird watching, traveling collecting pottery and attending church services and activities. She was also active with the Emmitsburg Senior Center. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandi Shriner and husband Terry of Fairfield, PA; son, Scott Stambaugh and wife Mollie of Frederick, MD; siblings, Betty Ann Mumma of Rocky Ridge, MD, Nancy Baker of Thurmont, MD, Gary Glass of Thurmont, MD, Larry Glass of Emmitsburg, MD, and Michael Glass of Arendtsville, PA; granddaughters, Kathryn Grace, Heidi Elizabeth, and Ava Ruth; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Jim and Bill Glass, Patty McGlaughlin and Carolyn Coshun.
The family will receive friends 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church 10926 Simmons Rd., Emmitsburg, MD 21727. A funeral service will then be held at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Keysville Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church at the above address. Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
