Thomas Cowen

Thomas Arthur Cowen, 90, of Taneytown, MD died peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Westminster.  Born January 5, 1928 in Vandergrift, PA, he was the son of the late Arthur and Frances (Edwards) Cowen.  He was the husband of Dolores Katherine (Gaudy) Cowen, to whom he was married for 70 years.

Tom was a foreman for American Window Glass Company in New Kensington, PA and later for Combustion Engineers in New Jersey.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II.  He was a member of Bethel Lodge Free and Accepted Masons.  He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and Bingo, watching football and baseball on television, and spending time with his family.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Dolores, are daughter, Paulette Atherton and husband Mike of Taneytown; son, Christopher Cowen and wife Andrea of Mullica Hill, NJ; brother, Peter Cowen and wife Dorothy “Chickie” of Lower Burrell, PA; sister, Marlene Rice and husband Patrick of Sarver, PA; grandchildren, Thomas Atherton and wife Anna of Odenton, MD, and Alexander and Katherine Cowen of Mullica Hill, NJ; great-grandson, Landyn; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Cowen.

Services are private.  Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown.  Memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Dr, Memphis, TN, 38105.
