Thomas A. Bender, age 60, of Sabillasville, MD died on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the University of Maryland Hospital Center in Baltimore, following an extended illness.
He was born March 18, 1953 in Frederick, Maryland son of the late Charles A. and Evelyn C. (Moberley) Bender.
He worked as a mechanic, truck driver, and heavy machine operator until his recent illness. He loved to meet new people and travel, and always had a good story to tell.
Surviving are his children, Kelly Shafer, Alan Bender, Thomas Bender, all of Washington Co., MD, and Sarah Bender of Emmitsburg; grandchildren, Hannah, Zackery, Kelsey, Brett, and Alina Bender, Christopher Kwarta, and Michael Bender; great-granddaughter, Raygan Bender; sister, Sandy Harley and husband Sonny of Sabillasville; brother, Austin Bender and wife Olivia of Frederick; nephews, Jay and Billy Harley, Danny Bender; niece, Lisa Marchesani; and other nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a best friend Donny Speck.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, 7 Sunny Way, Thurmont.
