Thoma (Haynes) Petersen

Thoma Petersen, 98, of Wheaton, Maryland, died peacefully surrounded by her family at her son’s home in Woodbine, Maryland.

Born December 20, 1922 in Skudeneshavn, Norway she was the daughter of the late Monrad and Anna (Eide) Haynes.  She was the beloved wife of the late Rodney Peter Petersen.

Thoma was a member of Saint Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, Maryland.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are daughter, Kim M. de Groot and husband Gerrie of Berkeley Springs, WV; son, Kurt A. Petersen and wife Judy of Woodbine, MD; grandchildren, David de Groot and wife Karen of Rockville, Adam de Groot of Wheaton, John de Groot and partner Jessica Adams of Ellicott City, Jessica Crawford and husband Christopher of Westminster, and Kirsten Petersen and partner Michael Stamp of Westminster; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Hazel Crawford, and Nellie Stamp.

She was predeceased by a brother, A. Alvin Haynes.

A Celebration of Thoma’s Life will be planned for a later date at Saint Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church in Silver Spring.  Private interment will be in Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Colesville Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20910 (saintluke.us).  Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Westminster.
