Theron George Clabaugh, age 89, of Taneytown, Maryland died peacefully on Sunday morning April 11, 2010 at the home of his companion in Taneytown.
Born September 18, 1920 in Harney, Maryland, he was the son of the late George D. and Ohara (Keefer) Clabaugh. He was predeceased by his wife, Camille (Shorb) Clabaugh in 1995.
Theron graduated from Gettysburg High School and attended Gettysburg College. On January 25, 1946, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, serving during W.W.II as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class. He worked for Inductive Equipment, Cambridge Rubber Company, and retired from Gettysburg Engineering Company as a foreman. He was a life member of the following, American Legion Hesson Snyder Post 120 Taneytown, V.F.W. Post 6954 in Littlestown, and the Charles J. Gilliand AMVETS Post 172 in Fairfield, PA. He was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2226 in Littlestown, PA, Taneytown Rod and Gun Club, Inc., Taneytown Senior Center, Gettysburg Moose Lodge #1526, Legion of the Moose, and the Navy Breakfast Club of Gettysburg.
Surviving are a son Theron “Larry” Lawrence Clabaugh of Taneytown, devoted companion, Betty Glass of Taneytown, sister, Arlene Spangler of Harney, and a sister-in-law, Arlene Weaver of Hanover, PA.
He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Eugene Clabaugh, and a sister, Jean Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery in Harney, MD. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
