Thelma Beatrice Shipley, 94, of Bolivia, N.C., died on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.
Born March 5, 1922 in Alberton, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Louis C. and Elizabeth S. (Funk) McDonald.
Thelma worked as a cashier and assistant manager with Giant Foods for many years. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Gamber. She was very dedicated to working in the church, and organizing church dinners. She loved to cook for her family, and was a caregiver to several family members and friends.
Surviving her are son, L. Wayne Shipley and wife Martha of Gilbert, S.C.; daughter, Faye E. Haker of Supply, N.C.; grandchildren, Kevin, Shawna, and Michael Haker, Erik and Holly Shipley, Megan DeFord; great-grandchildren, Kirby Toolan, J. Ryan Teague, Jessica Brooks, P. Kyle Haker, Kate Haker, Kaylee Frazier, Kaitlyn, Emma, and Andrew Shipley, and Keaton DeFord; great-great-grandchildren, Shane and Kyla Toolan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by former husband, Leonard P. Shipley; son-in-law, James J. Haker; and by siblings, Roy, Guy, Genieva, May, Elsie, Dolores, Richard, Hazel, Sonny, and Agnes.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3939 Gamber Rd., Finksburg, Maryland with Rev. Martin Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the Providence Cemetery in Gamber, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, Brunswick County Hospice Care Center, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422. Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Westminster, MD.
