Thelma Roop Schaffer Raab

Thelma (Roop Schaffer) Raab, age 98, of Taneytown died Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Carroll Lutheran Village Healthcare Center, surrounded by her family. Born in Taneytown, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Agnes (Bentzell) Roop. She was the wife of the late William Raab. Thelma was the last member of her generation.

Thelma was a lifelong member of Keysville Lutheran Church and Key Women. She worked for Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown for 30 years. Thelma loved flowers, hummingbirds, baking and music. She cherished the times she spent with her family and friends.

Surviving are daughter, Linda Harrod and husband Wayne of Longwood FL; sons, David Schaffer and wife Charlotte of Keymar, Glenn Schaffer and wife Virginia of Hanover, and Craig Schaffer of Taneytown; stepdaughter, Robin Stansbury and husband Chris of New Midway; grandchildren, Laryssa Keeney, Brandon Schaffer, Brandi Schaffer, Shannon Bitzel, Nathan Schaffer, Tyler Schaffer, Ashley Gamble and Evan Schaffer; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents Earl and Agnes; husband William; siblings, Norval Roop, Paul Roop, Audrey Rohrbaugh, Mary Louise Chew and infant sister Marie Lois Roop.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 2-4p.m. and 6-8p.m. at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD 21787. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, 11a.m. at Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7301 Keysville Rd, Keymar, MD 21757, with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Keysville Union Cemetery.
