Steven Allen Byrne, age 65, of Baltimore, Maryland, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in Frederick, Maryland. Born March 4, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Marian Jane (Allen) Byrne of Westminster and the late Thomas Walter Byrne who died on August 30, 2015.
Steve graduated with honors from Western Maryland College in 1972 where he also played baseball for four years. He then pursued a career in the culinary field and graduated from the Baltimore Culinary Institute in 1979. He was employed as a chef with the Salvation Army in Baltimore. A huge sports enthusiast, he was an avid Orioles, Ravens and Terps fan, and possessed an impressive collection of sports memorabilia. He enjoyed following his home team to away events. A huge aficionado of classic rock music, he possessed a vast collection of albums.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a brother, John Byrne and wife Cindi of Westminster; a sister, Jane Peterson of Baltimore; nieces and nephews, Brendan, Caitlin and Kirsten Byrne, S. Sgt. USAF Steven Peterson; aunt, Ann Taylor and husband Harvey and three cousins. He was pre-deceased by uncle John “Jack” Byrne and wife Lee Byrne and two cousins.
A Memorial Service to remember and celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 3 pm at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD with Salvation Army Major Robert Lyle officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1pm until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery.
