Stanley W. King

Stanley Wilmer King, age 86, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, Pa.
Born December 18, 1921 in Toliva, Pa., he was the son of the late Wilmer O. and Bessie (McClain) King. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Jane (Wilt) King in 1995.
Stanley was owner and operator of King’s Plumbing and Heating for over forty years. He was a graduate of Brunswick H.S. in Brunswick, Md. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps., serving during W.W.II. He was a past department commander of the American Legion Department of MD, and was active in American Legion affairs since the early 1950’s, serving as past commander of the Hesson-Snider American Legion, Post 120 in Taneytown, and a member of the 40 & 8. Stanley was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown, where he served many terms on the church council, and the church cemetery board. He served on the board of Tressler Lutheran Services, and was active in the Delaware-Maryland Synod of the E.L.C.A. In 2005 he received the Luther Award for his service to Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was a member and past president of the Taneytown Lions Club, where he was honored in 2004 as a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was an active and long time member of the Taneytown Vol. Fire Dept., and was an ambulance driver, and member of the fire police. He was past-president of the Carroll County Fire Police.
Surviving are a daughter, Anne K. Whaples of Cambridge, Md.; grandson, Matthew W. King of Cambridge, Md.; step-grandson, Graham Whaples of Severna Park, Md.; sisters, Doris Gentile of Gambrills, Md., and Lois King of Baltimore, Md.; nephews, Tony and Robert Gentile, Dr. George Baumgardner; and nieces, Carolyn Breitbach, and Lori Burkland. .
He was pre-deceased in addition to his wife, by an infant son, by a son-in-law, Randy N. Whaples in 2007, and by a nephew, Ralph Gentile.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 38 West Baltimore St., Taneytown, with his pastor the Rev. Nicholas Brie officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, and again on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.An American Legion service will be held Friday evening at 7:30 pm followed by a Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company service at 8:00 PM.
