Sister Jane Frances Fairley, Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, died on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Villa Saint Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Sister Jane Frances was born to parents Thomas and Mary Fairley on November 18, 1921 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was one of two siblings. Sister graduated from Seton High School in Baltimore, and entered the Daughters of Charity in December 1944.
Sister Jane Frances attended St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg, Maryland, Simmons and Boston Colleges in Boston, Massachusetts, and did her graduate work in nursing at Frostburg State Uiversity in Frostburg, Maryland. Sister Jane Frances began her nursing career with the Daughters of Charity as a Medical Surgical Supervisor at Carney Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She served in various hospital ministries in Norfolk, Virginia, Lowell and Troy, New York, Jacksonville and Pensacola, Florida, and Cumberland and Baltimore, Maryland. In 1995 Sister Jane Frances served at St. Joseph’s Parish, Martinsburg, West Virginia, as a visitor to those who were homebound. She remianed there until September 2006, when she entered the ministry of prayer at Villa Saint Michael, Emmitsburg, Maryland.
Sister Jane Frances is survived by a nephew, Martin Vittek and his wife, Carol and their children.
Sister’s wake will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg. Her funeral will be on Wednesday, October 30 at 11:00 AM in the Basicilia of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Emmitsburg, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
