Sister James Regina (Katreen Morgan) Rankin, age 80, died at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland on December 12. She was born on December 15, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia. Sister James Regina was one of two children born to Nell (Lord) Rankin and General James William Rankin.
Sister James Regina joined the Daughters of Charity on December 22, 1952 in Emmitsburg, Maryland. After a period of formation, she began her teaching ministry at St. James School in Johnson City, New York where she served from 1954-1958. Other teaching ministries followed: St. Catherine Labouré School in Wheaton, Maryland (1958-1971), St. Charles School in Baltimore, Maryland (1971-1975), Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, Maryland (1975-1980), and St. Vincent DePaul High School in Petersburg, Virginia (1990-2001). After caring for her mother, she resumed teaching as a tutor at St. Joseph School in Petersburg (2005-2009) and at Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg (2009-2010). In 2010 she was missioned to Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg where she served in the ministry of prayer until her death.
In 1969 Sister James Regina earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg. She earned a Master’s Degree in Theology from St. Michael College in Colchester, Vermont in 1980.
Sister James Regina was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Jeanne Cooksey. She is survived by nieces and nephews and her Sisters in Community.
A wake service will be held on Friday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, December 19 a7t 11:00 a.m. in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Emmitsburg, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
