Sister Ann Adele Kelly, age 88, died at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland on July 1, 2023.
She was born on July 31, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland to Ida Virginia (Rice) and John Jackson Kelly, Sr.
Before entering the Community, Sister Ann Adele was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Baltimore.
She graduated from Seton High School in 1952 and entered the Daughters of Charity on July 14, 1953. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education in 1964 from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg and her Master of Music Degree in Music Education in 1977 from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
Following initial formation, Sister Ann Adele was missioned to St. Charles School in Pikesville, Maryland (1954-1965). She then ministered in Liturgy and Formation at St. Joseph Provincial House in Emmitsburg from 1965-1971. After this, she served as Elementary Teacher at Our Lady Queen of Peace School in Washington, D. C. (1971-1976) and St. Pius X School in Greensboro, North Carolina (1976-1990). In her last three years at St. Pius X School, she taught Religion, Music and served in the library, ministries that she continued at St. Patrick School in Richmond, Virginia (1990-1996). Her next assignment was as Liturgist and Music Director at St. Joseph Provincial House (1996-2008). Music was truly her love and her gift that brought joy to others. In 2008, Sister Ann Adele was missioned to Villa St. Michael for the Ministry of Prayer. During this time, she also was the spiritual moderator for the local chapter of the Ladies of Charity and continued to serve as organist and librarian as she was able. She held the Ministry of Prayer until her death.
Sister Ann Adele was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Kelly, and sister Mary Kelly. She is survived by her brother Robert J. Kelly, nieces and nephews and her Sisters in Community.
A Wake Service will be held on Wednesday, July 5 at 7:00 pm in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 6 in the Villa Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery on the grounds.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sister Ann Adele’s name to the Daughters of Charity, 4330 Olive Street, Saint Louis, Missouri 63108.
