Sister Rosa Daly, Dc

Sister Rosa Daly, age 95, died July 1, 2014 at Villa Saint Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  She was born on June 12, 1919 in Washington, DC.  Sister was the youngest of 6 children born to Timothy and Susan Hayes Daly.
Sister Rosa joined the Daughters of Charity On December 21, 1937.   Her first mission was St. Vincent School in Detroit, Michigan (1939-1940).  After leaving St. Vincent’s Sister taught at St. Martin School, Baltimore Maryland (1940-1944); De Paul Medical Center, Norfolk Virginia (1944-1945).  The remainder of her ministry was in hospitals which included:  St. Vincent’s Hospital, Bridgeport, Connecticut (1945-1949); St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida (1949-1957); Sisters of Charity Hospital, Buffalo, New York (1957-1969); Providence Hospital, Washington DC (1969-1975).  In 1975 she was missioned to St. Joseph Provincial House, Emmitsburg, Maryland  (1975-1988), where for 6 years she served as Provincial Treasurer; then  Villa Saint Michael, Emmitsburg where she served as Administrator and Sister Servant (1988-1992).  In 1992 she returned to health care at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Maryland 1992-2004).  Sister Rosa was missioned to Villa Saint Michael in 2004 with a ministry of prayer.   She also enjoyed helping in the sewing room of St. Joseph House until the time of her death.
Sister Rosa’s siblings, Anna Marie, Joseph, Edward, Eugene and Francis preceded her in death.  She is survived by many nieces and nephews and her Sisters in Community.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.   Viewing will take place prior to the Mass in the Basilica foyer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sr. Rosa’s name to the Daughters of Charity, 4330 Olive Street, Saint Louis, MO  63108.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg, MD.
