Sister Mary Ann Bozel

Sister Mary Ann Bozel, age 89, died March 1, 2014 at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  She was born August 18, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland to Richard W. and Josephine Albert Bozel.
Sister Mary Ann entered the Daughters of Charity on December 14, 1942.  For most of her life she served in the field of education, specializing in the primary grades.  Her missions as teacher were at St. John’s School in Albany, New York; Cathedral Schools in Syracuse, New York; Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg; and St. Catherine Laboure’ School in Wheaton, Maryland.  She served as principal at St. Joseph Villa in Richmond, Virginia and Portsmouth Elementary School in Portsmouth, Virginia.  She was an Educational Consultant for the Emmitsburg Province of the Daughters of Charity.  In this position, she established a Learning Center in Emmitsburg to assist teacher, volunteers, and aides.  She also traveled throughout the Province giving workshops.  After her teaching career, Sister Mary Ann went to Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg as Director of Activities.  In her later years, she served in the Ministry of Prayer, a ministry she held until her death.
In 1963 Sister Mary Ann earned her B.A. degree from St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg and in 1968, her Master’s degree in Education from St. John’s University in New York.
Sister Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, and seven siblings.  She is survived by her sisters, Sister Rita Bozel, D.C. of Emmitsburg and Ann Delaney of Tampa, Florida; nieces and nephews; and her Sisters in Community.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Emmitsburg, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sister Mary Ann’s name to International Project Services, 18000 West Nine Mile Road, Suite 550 Southfield, MI  48075-3734 (www.daughtersips.org).  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
