Sister Jeanne Filor, age 85, died at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland on December 15, 2020.    She was born May 21, 1935 in Buffalo, New York to Margaret (Fitzpatrick) and John Filor. Before entering the Community, Sister Jeanne was a member of St. Frances de Sales Parish in Buffalo.  She graduated from the Institute of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1952 and entered the Daughters of Charity March 22, 1956. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1964 from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg and her Master of Science Degree in Nursing in 1972 from The University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.

Following initial formation, Sister Jeanne taught at St. Michael School, Baltimore (1958-1961).   She then studied nursing at St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg and Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C. (1961-1964).   Her next mission was at Seton Institute, Baltimore as a Nurse Supervisor (1964-1972).  Following this, she served at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. as a Home Care Coordinator and a Clinical Nurse Specialist. (1972-1979).  Sister Jeanne continued as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, (1979-1982).  From there she went to Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Maryland as a Nurse Supervisor (1982-1985) and then to Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg where she served as a Nurse for the retired Sisters (1985-1987).   After this, she continued working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in DePaul Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia (1987-1992).  Following this mission, she went to Richmond, Virginia to serve as a Nurse in the Cross Over Health Clinic (1992-1993). A time of personal renewal followed.  In 2001, Sister Jeanne went to St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore where she ministered as a Pastoral Associate (2001-2002).  Her ministry in Pastoral Care continued at Carroll Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington, D.C. (2002-2011) and at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center in Emmitsburg (2011-2014). Sister Jeanne loved nursing and spiritual care and was a kind, gentle support to those who were dying.  In 2014, Sister Jeanne was missioned to Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg for the Ministry of Prayer, a position she held until her death.

Sister Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Margaret Tolman.   She is survived by her brother John, and her sisters Eleanor (William) Burke and Patricia Filor, nieces and nephews, and her Sisters in Community.

A private wake service and Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Martin McGeough, C.M. celebrant, will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg.  Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sister Jeanne’s name to the Daughters of Charity, 4330 Olive Street, Saint Louis, Missouri 63108.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
