Sister De Sales (Rose Marie) Wisniewski, age 88, died at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland on September 8, 2018. She was born on November 19, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. Sister De Sales was one of two daughters born to Francis Joseph and Anna Winifred (Herbert) Wisniewski.
Sister De Sales joined the Daughters of Charity on September 8, 1947 at St. Ann Infant Home in Washington, D.C. After a period of initial formation in Emmitsburg, Maryland she was sent on her first mission to St. Patrick’s School in Richmond, VA as a teacher (1949 – 1953). In 1953 she attended St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg, Maryland. For the next several years after graduation she served in a variety of nursing positions at Providence Hospital, Washington, DC (1956 - 1957), Saint Vincent’s Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida (1957 -1960), The Carney Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts (1960 – 1964), De Paul Medical Center, Norfolk Virginia (1964-1968), Providence Hospital, Washington, DC (1968 – 1974), St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland (1974-1979), Providence Hospital, Washington, DC (1979 -1989)
In 1989 she was assigned to Saint Vincent’s Health System, Jacksonville, Florida in a variety of Mission Service / Integration positions until 2008 when she was assigned to Saint Agnes Hospital, Baltimore Maryland (2008 – 2016). In 2016 Sister De Sales was missioned to St. Michael Villa in Emmitsburg and served in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.
Sister De Sales earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg in 1955 and a Master of Science degree in Medical Surgical Nursing from Boston University in 1963.
Sister De Sales was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister Miriam Ludwitzke and several nephews and nieces and her Sisters in Community.
A wake service will be held on Friday, September 14 at 7:00 pm in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 15 at 11:00 am in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Emmitsburg, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sister De Sales’ name to the Daughters of Charity, 4330 Olive Street, Saint Louis, Missouri 63108.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
