Sister Clara (Casmira) Pedo, age 75, died Monday, April 2, 2018 at Villa Saint Michael, Emmitsburg, Maryland. She was born on March 2, 1943 in Johnson City, New York. Sister Clara was the second of two daughters born to Paul Peter and Clara Barbara (Mossakowski) Pedo.
Sister Clara joined the Daughters of Charity on June 25, 1962 in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Her first mission was at St. Joseph’s Villa, Richmond, Virginia, where she served as a teacher from 1965 to 1969. Several other teaching assignments followed: St. Dominic’s School, Baltimore, Maryland (1965-1969); Mother Seton School, Emmitsburg, Maryland (1969-1981 and 1989-1990); Portsmouth Catholic Elementary School, Portsmouth, Virginia (1990-1996); and St. Patrick School, Richmond, Virginia (1996-1999). From 1999 to 2017, Sister Clara served as Librarian at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, Maryland.
Sister Clara earned her Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Detroit in 1978.
Sister Clara was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister Loretta, and nieces and nephews Theresa, James, Marie, Celeste and Matthew.
A wake service will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Emmitsburg. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sister Clara’s name to the Daughters of Charity, 4330 Olive Street, St. Louis, Missouri 63108.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Emmitsburg, MD.
