Sister Camilla Harant, Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul

Sister Camilla (Kamilla Theresa) Harant, age 98, died December 20, 2013 at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  She was born on October 30, 1915 in Baltimore, Maryland.  Sister Camilla was one of three children born to Philip and Kamilla (Paule) Harant.
Sister Camilla joined the Daughters of Charity on December 2, 1938 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  Her first mission was St. Vincent’s Home in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania where she cared for children for six and a half years.  In 1946 she went to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida to serve in the business office.  Following that mission, she served as business manager in St. Margaret Hospital, Dorchester, Massachusetts from 1948-1954 and in Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C. from 1954 until 1957.  In 1957 Sister Camilla went to Saginaw, Michigan where she was the administrator of St. Mary’s Hospital for three years.   In 1960 she came back to Emmitsburg to assume the duties of Assistant Treasurer.  During this time, she earned her Bachelor Degree in Secretarial Science at St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg.  After ten years as Assistant Treasurer, Sister Camilla was asked to be Treasurer of the Emmitsburg Province, a role she held for thirteen years.  From 1984 until 2005 she served at St. Joseph Provincial House as Special Projects Director, Assistant Administrator, and Administrative Assistant in Villa St. Michael.  In 2010 Sister Camilla began serving in the Ministry of Prayer and remained in that ministry until her death.
Sister Camilla was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.  She is survived by her nephew Philip (Delores) Harant of Baltimore and her Sisters in Community.
A wake service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Emmitsburg, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sister Camilla’s name to the Daughters of Charity, 4330 Olive Street, Saint Louis, Missouri  63108.
