Shirley Mae Barnes, age 75, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Born April 12, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Marshall W. and Helen R. (Shaffer) VanHorne. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles “Gene” E. Barnes, Sr.
Shirley was an active member of the Church of the Open Door in Westminster. She taught the Ladies Sunday School class. She was the auxiliary president of the Gideons International of Carroll County. She enjoyed creating her own cards and spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Sheryl Jean Walker of Hanover, Pa., Charles “Chuck” E. Barnes, Jr. and wife Teresa L. of Westminster; grandchildren Carrie, Rachelle, Braden, and Eric Walker, C.J., III, Jacob, Brittany, and Jared Barnes; great-grandchildren Aden and Kamden Walker; siblings Nancy L. Beck of Linthicum, John “Jack” L. VanHorne of Lutherville, Beverly A. Orr of Baltimore, Linda S. Orr of Halethorpe; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Marshall “Butch” VanHorne, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Church of the Open Door in Westminster, with Pastor Norris Belcher officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
