Shelby "Jean" Parks

October 26, 1936 — August 2, 2013

Shelby Jean Parks, 76, of Emmitsburg died peacefully Friday, August 2, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick.  Born October 26, 1936 in Speedwell, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Kelly and Laura Sage Holbrook.  She was the wife of the late Larkin R. Parks who died in 1980.

Jean cooked at several area restaurants throughout her life and worked at the Cozy Restaurant in Thurmont for 15 years.  She was a member of the Emmitsburg Senior Citizens and the Brunswick Eagles.  She loved cooking, dancing, playing Bingo, and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are children, David Parks and wife Beverly of Thurmont, Barbara Shoe and husband Walter of Germantown, Melvin and Ronald Parks, both of Marion, VA, Donald Parks of Emmitsburg, and Susan Lydard and husband Shayne of Pasadena; sister, Frances Frye and husband Dave of Wytheville, VA; brothers, Teddy Holbrook of Rural Retreat, VA, Danny Holbrook and wife Stella of Rural Retreat, VA and Sammy Holbrook and wife Beverly of Speedwell, VA; grandchildren, Sabrina and Matthew Shoe, Jeremy Parks, and Justin and Zach Lydard; great-grandchildren, Payton Shoe and Ryan Parks; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by daughter, Phyllis Parks and brother, Jay Holbrook.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD with Lt. Mike and Cathy Michels of the Frederick Salvation Army officiating.  Interment will follow at Jefferson United Methodist Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday.
