Sarah Kate Brower, age 84, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Thursday, November 27, 2008 at the Golden Crest Assisted Living in Westminster, MD.
Born March 30, 1924 in Hillsville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Peter L. and Gladys Velma (Kenley) Shockley. She was the wife of the late Paul F. Brower, who predeceased her in 1992.
Sarah was raised in the Emmitsburg area and graduated from the Emmitsburg High School before moving to Taneytown. For a time she worked in the Borenstein’s Sewing Factory in Taneytown. Sarah was a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau and the Taneytown Planning group of the Farm Bureau for many years, as well as a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sewing.
Surviving are a son, Donald E. Brower and wife Lisa of Taneytown, a sister, Bertha Shockley of Emmitsburg, grandsons, Adam and Eric Brower, and several nieces.
She was pre-deceased by a sister, Mary Reaver.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown with her pastor the Rev. Steven Ostendorf-Snell officiating. Interment will follow in the Grace U.C.C. Cemetery in Taneytown. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 7-9 PM and on Sunday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
