Samuel Andrew Martin, 75, of Westminster, passed away, Friday, February 28, 2025, at his home. Born March 16, 1949, in Baltimore, he was the beloved son of the late Donald Caples Martin and Catherine Beard Martin. Samuel is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Lee Martin, nee Stair, devoted father of Shelly Cecilia Mitchell-Silkworth and her husband David, and Justin Andrew Martin; cherished grandfather of Ellis, Eden, Hannah, and Mackenzie; caring brother of Donald “Butch” Martin, Judith Coyle and her husband James, Cathy Hogan and her husband, Edward, brother-in-law of Christine Martin and Janet Martin and also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers John C. Martin and George J. Martin.
Samuel was born the fourth out of six children, who were raised in Westminster by his loving parents. In 1967, Samuel graduated from Westminster High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. His experience in military service saw him stationed in Washington D.C. and Guam. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he met the love of his life, Sandra. They were married on September 3, 1977 and had 47 happy years together before his passing. He proudly worked for the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company and Superfresh before retirement. Shortly thereafter, in 2007 he received the gift of life through a heart transplant, extending his life an astonishing 18 years. In his free time, Samuel loved sports, in particular basketball, golf, and playing billiards in several Carroll County Senior Center leagues. He was a voracious reader and a lifelong learner and could also often be found in his backyard with his chainsaw and wood splitter.
The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2025 and 9 to 11 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2025 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 91 Willis Street, Westminster (21157), where the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday. Interment will follow the funeral service at Pleasant Valley Cemetery at 1903 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Westminster (21158).
