Samuel Richard Clayland, 86, of Taneytown, MD, died peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born March 2, 1930 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Samuel “Bob” and Alice (Meeks) Clayland. He was the husband of the late Lucille Ann (Brocato) Clayland.
Sam spent his career as a Baltimore City Firefighter. Upon retirement, he was a bus driver in Ocean City, MD for 15 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are children, Samuel Clayland Jr. and wife Crystal of Ocean City, Sherrie Keeney and companion Greg Johnson of Westminster, Daniel Clayland of Ocean City, and William Clayland and companion Debbie Sheidy of Westminster; grandchildren, Jacqueline O’Brien, Stanley Keeney, Jr., Kevin, Paige, & Kasey Clayland; and great-grandchildren, Lukas, & Alexis O’Brien, and Aden Keeney. He was predeceased by daughter, Gina Clayland and brother, William Clayland.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, with Deacon Darrell Smith officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
