Ruth “Blondie” G. Swartz, age 75, of Emmitsburg, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at home.
Born September 29, 1939 in Emmitsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles Perry and Mary Margaret (Byard) Koontz. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Norman M. Swartz.
Over the course of Blondie’s years she worked at multiple places but her passion was in the restaurant industry. She was a homemaker and mother for most of her working career and she loved to cook and make baked goods to share with neighbors, friends and family. She also cherished and loved being a Nanny and taking care of her grandchildren. She attended Elias Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg.
Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Charles R. Swartz and wife Cathy of Thurmont, Diane L. Keeney and husband Ronald of Fairfield, Douglas P. Swartz and wife Susan of Gettysburg, and Michelle A. Metz and husband Ronald of Emmitsburg; grandchildren, Mitchell Keeney, Kimberly Swartz, Timothy Swartz, Caitlin Swartz, and Kurstin Metz; sister, Ethel Riley of PA; brothers, Lloyd Koontz of Keymar and Kenneth Koontz and wife Darlene of Emmitsburg.
She was predeceased by siblings, Evelyn Manahan, Catherine Stahley, William and James Koontz, Anna Topper, and Dorothy Preston.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St. Emmitsburg, with funeral celebrant John C. Morrill officiating. Interment will follow in Elias Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday.
